If humans are to ensure their survival for millions of years into the future, they have to become a multi-planetary species. This belief is held by some of the leading scientists and innovators of our time, including Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk.
If earth remains the only home humans know, it’s possible that a cataclysmic event could wipe out the human race. History proves this could happen. Dinosaurs roamed the earth for millions of years before a colossal asteroid made them extinct. Giant asteroids are not the only threat to the survival of human life. Others include super solar flares, super volcanoes, nuclear war, and the more familiar climate change.

This is the case for colonizing Mars. Creating human settlements on Mars will not only ensure humans live beyond apocalyptic events, it will also promote scientific advancements in fields such as energy and healthcare while developing humans as a species. All of these advantages are vital for our long-term survival.
